Client Spotlight: Sarah Alex Carter

“It’s going to be super hard and I didn’t know where to start”

Self-publishing your first book can feel like treading through a minefield, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Find out how Sarah Alex Carter successfully launched her first book, Upward, and the difference it has made to her life and business.

Meet Sarah!

Sarah Alex Carter is a women’s wellbeing coach and consultant based in South Wales.

In 2022, she embarked on a mission to publish her first book, Upward: The Power of Looking Up. Inspired by her own personal development journey, she shares the stories of 16 incredible people who show how changing your perspective can transform your life.

The book process

When Sarah came to us, her book was in fantastic shape. She had spent a lot of time nailing the content and structure, so we were able to get straight to work on the copyedit. Our managing editor, Jessica, worked closely with Sarah on the edit and helped her navigate the self-publishing process, including any curveballs thrown her way (and in the world of publishing, there are always curveballs!). We worked alongside Sarah’s formatter to make sure high editorial standards were maintained through every aspect of the book and our expert proofreader Yasmin provided the final quality check to make sure Upward was ready to go public!

“You were my complete and utter guide and navigated me through the whole process.“

Beyond the book

Since launching her book, Sarah has gone on to build a successful wellbeing coaching and consultancy business, specializing in women’s wellness and the menopause. She has supported individuals and worked with organisations to improve staff wellbeing, ran group workshops and coached women 1:1, helping them find clarity, reduce overwhelm and thrive in the modern world. Sarah has been invited as a guest on podcasts, in the UK and internationally, and was a finalist in the Cardiff Life Awards 2023.

However, for Sarah, writing a book hasn’t only opened doors in her professional life; it has been game-changing on a personal level in ways she never could have imagined. It has helped her discover a life of joy and enabled her to realise what is truly possible. Sarah now harnesses this unwavering self-belief to support others live their best lives through her coaching, workshops and, of course, Upward.

”I’m going to say it: it’s been lifechanging.“

Ten months after launching Upward, Jessica caught up with Sarah to find out how life has been since she became a published author, her future plans and what advice she would give to aspiring self-help authors.
